Nippon Connection 2021- The Daily Highlights (June 2nd)

We hope you all tuned in last night for this year’s Opening Ceremony! The digital events continue today with both cultural events and several film talks with some of our featured directors!

Events/Workshops:

Japanese Cinema- A Book Presentation from Kayo Adachi-Rabe

In this free presentation, the author will discuss the history and milestones of Japanese cinema from its origins to the present day. The event will be held in German.

Manga Workshop with Colin Schwanengel

Both today and tomorrow, our guest artist will offer some tips and lessons on learning how to draw things in the popular manga style, with a particular focus on faces, bodies, and emotions. Both events require ticket purchase beforehand and will be held in German. Necessary materials include paper, pencil, pencil sharpener, and erasers.

Nippon Home Cinema

After its success last year, our hosts Jörg Buttgereit and Marcus Stiglegger return with Nippon Home Cinema. Viewers will join them in revisiting an old Japanese sci-fi classic, while the hosts offer their thoughts and commentary live during the viewing. Ticket purchase is required beforehand and the event will be in German.

Introduction to Zazen Meditation

Our guest, Barbara Beste, will offer attendees to this workshop an introduction to some of the most basic Zen Buddhist meditation practices, perfect for relieving workday stress. Ticket purchase is required beforehand and the workshop will be held in German.

Film Talks:

Our featured Film Talks with guest directors have free, open entry and will be held in Japanese and English. Tune in and hear all sorts of thoughts and anecdotes behind the creative processes of some of this year’s featured films! Please register beforehand to receive the access link.
