Lecture: Japanese Toys Through The Ages

This free lecture by Dr. Victoria von Asschenfeldt will provide a look into the history of Japanese toys. Language of the event will be in German.

Kakashiza: Hand Shadow Workshop

Nippon Open Air: Kendama

This outdoor event will show beginners some tricks with this longstanding popular toy from Japan.

Nippon Open Air: Duo Fuga

This popular musical duet returns to Nippon for this live, open-air performance.

Lecture: Cool Japan Made In Unterföhring

This lecture will look at the rise of Japanese anime and how it was marketed, especially within the German market, following WWII.

Film Premieres:

Parasite in Love by Kensaku KAKIMOTO

This unique and unusual love story celebrates it’s European premiere today.

Satoshi KON: The Illusionist by Pascal-Alex VINCENT

This will be the German premiere of an excellent look at the legacy of one of the most influential figures in Japanese film animation.

What She Likes… by Shogo KUSANO

This combination queer drama and coming-of-age tale celebrates its German premiere in the Mousonturm.

The End of the Pale Hour by Hana MATSUMOTO

A thoughtful and often melancholic story about having to face one’s shortcomings and grow up, this excellent film has its international premiere today.

Let Me Hear It Barefoot by Riho KUDO

Another great LGBTQ drama screened at Nippon Connection, this one will be the German premiere of the director’s 2nd feature film.

We Made A Beautiful Bouquet by Nobuhiro DOI

This screening will be the German premiere for the film.

Dozens of Norths by Koji YAMAMURA

Using a dissonant, often confusing, and dreamlike style, this stream-of-consciousness exploration of themes of loneliness and isolation is a unique experience. Tonight is it’s German premiere.

My Brother, The Android And Me by Junji SAKAMOTO

This unique spin on the Frankenstein archetype will celebrate its European premiere this evening.

Meet the Guests:

Just The Two Of Us by Keita FUJIMOTO

The German premiere of this film will be followed by virtual Q&A with one of the film’s leads, Honor Award recipient Masatoshi NAGASE.

Origami by Tadasuke KOTANI

The director will tune in online for a Q&A following the world premiere of this unique new documentary.
