Things start off a bit earlier today; our first film premiere is at 2 o’clock, and we keep rolling from there until late tonight. Here are some of the best events on offer during Day Two of this year’s festival.

Special Events:

Workshop: Film Sound Recording

Emmy-award-winning Foley artist Goro KOYAMA comes all the way from Canada to share his experiences on various film projects and give attendees a small taste of the craft of recording sound for film and how essential its contribution to a film is.

Heisei: End of an Era

In accordance with the Japanese calendar, the Heisei era ended on April 30th, 2019. Emperor Akihito abdicated the throne after 30 years of rule in favor of his son, Naruhito. Lisette Gebhardt, David Jungmann, Cheyenne Dreissigacker, and Christian Chappelow from the Institute for Japanese Studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main meet to discuss the importance of this epoch.

The lecture will be in German and admission is free.

Whiskey-Tasting Masterclass

Japanese whisky has been booming for several years now. Mark Armin Giesler, Brand Ambassador Whisky of Suntory, a global spirits group founded in Japan, of which the Yamazaki distillery is part of, presents the special features of Japanese whisky in his master class and offers you the opportunity to try selected varieties.

Participation is limited to guests of ages 18 and over.

Nippon Live On-Stage: Haru Nemuri

The sound of Haru Nemuri is an exciting blend of Alternative Rock, Post Rock, Hardcore, and Rap. Her music is futuristic and experimental, a potent mix of the uniqueness of J-Pop and the intensity of a Hardcore band. But don’t just take our work for it; come experience her gifts yourself!
