Nippon Connection 2023- The Daily Highlights (June 7th)

It’s sunny and hot, so why not come down to Mousonturm to relax in a cool movie theater? Our festival is back for day two with the following events to offer:

Special Events:

Theater of the World 2023

This free presentation from Theater der Welt will offer video presentations of their festivals. Presentation will be in English.

Anime Architecture

This insightful discussion of how architecture in Japanese animation is used to convey the story will be held in German and is free to enter.

Miso – More Than Just A Soup!

A culinary lecture on the many and varied uses of miso paste, tasting of various dishes will be included. Entrance is free and the lecture will mix German and Japanese (with translation, of course).

Panel: The World of Cat Literature

Cats are everywhere, even in many forms of Japanese and Chinese literature. This German-language panel will examine the appearance of our furry friends across eras and genres.

Nippon Open Air: moh

Our first open-air concert of the festival will be held this evening in front of the Naxoshalle.

Nippon Heimkino

It’s a standard of every Nippon Connection festival; Marcus STIGLEGGER and Kai NAUMANN will offer commentary while they and the audience view a classic Japanese trash staple.

The Zen Diary by Yuji NAKAE

This quiet, affecting film celebrates its German premiere in the Mousonturm this afternoon!

Single8 by Kazuya KONAKA

A love letter to the art of filmmaking, this screening will be the film’s European premiere.

December by Anshul CHAUHAN

Where is the line between forgiveness and second chances, and justive? The German premiere of December is sure to offer a thought-provoking experience to its audience.

Nippon Shorts I: Family and Romance

Kyusaku ICHIDA, director of one of the featured shorts, will attend today’s screening.

I Am A Comedian by Fumiara HYUGA

The director, following up his previous award-winning feature, will attend the international premiere in the Naxoshalle.

A Far Shore by Masaaki KUDO

A powerful film about the contrasts of life in Okinawa, the film’s director will attend today’s German premiere.

Okiku and the World by Junji SAKAMOTO

A very unique spin on stories from the age of samurai, the film’s producer, Mitsuo HARADA, will attend the German premiere.

Your Lovely Smile by Kah Wai LIM

The director will attend tonight’s German premiere.
